Description: A twenty-seven-minute film containing original KCRA-TV news footage on Ronald Reagan's State of the State address, the shooting of Sacramento Police officer Bernard Bennett, and the murder of Raymond Brewer in Del Paso Heights. The film highlights the crime scenes of both the Bernard and Brewer cases, as well as moments during the Bennett investigation.
Bernard M. Bennett was a Sacramento Police Officer who succumbed to gunshot wounds inflicted four days earlier when he was shot be a sniper while patrolling Oak Park. A bullet from a high powered rifle penetrated the roof of Bennett's patrol car, striking him in the head. While several men were accused of the crime, no one was ever convicted for his murder.
Raymond Brewer was a fifteen year old African-American man who was shot and killed by Sacramento Police Sergeant Sam Somers. Somers believed Brewer and his friends to be an armed group of robbers in the Del Paso Heights area. It turns out that Brewer had a broom, that he used to fend off dangerous dogs in the area. A judge ruled Somers innocent of any wrongdoing.
